Nobody is born as an experienced camper or hiker. How often do you get outdoors to go camping or hiking?
As a couple who have had a great many nights under the stars, there are many essentials that we would not leave home without, starting with a tent and a flashlight for obvious reasons. A long hike places a lot of stress on your ankles and feet which is transmitted through your legs. Camping, especially if it is accompanied by trekking and other adventure sport, can be pretty tiring and you will want to rest your weary bones at the end of the day so don't forget your sleeping bag.
The weather is one part of nature that can't be fooled with. First Aid Kits are readily available, pre made, in pharmacies and outdoor sporting goods stores. A foam underlay may also be a useful addition to keep the sleeping bag off the ground and away from moisture.
Maybe it's time you took a gander at the modern family camping tents and supplies. Have a flashlight for each camper in your group.
