What better way of experiencing the raw beauty of nature than through careful planning and preparation of a good camping or hiking excursion. Backpacking is a fun and refreshing activity that can be fun for the whole family, you may be near the mountains or in your back yard, but no matter where you are it can be a great experience.
If you start early then when the time comes for you to head out you just need to put together all the items and start packing. My family and I enjoy a good camping adventure in the great outdoors each summer. Local guides will be able to tell you which plants are good to eat and which are not, and will even be able to tell you what kinds of animals are prevalent in your area, increasing your chances of setting the right traps or of hunting the right spots.
It is important to have a solid base providing the support your entire body needs. Twisted ankles or sore feet are fairly guaranteed on long trips without proper footwear. Try to flex and exercise your ankles at least several times in the week or two before your trip.
Most of the climbing facilities serve dual purposes. Many places can even provide you with guides who are experts in climbing. Never leave a candle that is burning in your tent unattended and never fall asleep with a burning candle or a burning lantern in your tent.
Find an experienced ice climber and spend a day with them. Map and compass are a good idea of course, and tell someone where you'll be.
